Critics Choice nominees

EARLIER: Standby for the Broadcast Film Critics Association's nominees, which should be dropped imminently. The BFCA has traditionally fancied itself more of an Oscar predictor than a group with its own opinion (although they hedge their bets by including six nominees in most categories), but with so many categories casting an ever widening net, it's hard to tell what their collective opinion is anyway.

UPDATE: And her they are. True to form, the BFCA has made sure to line up behind all the presumed Oscar frontrunners, with Lincoln leading the way with 13 nods. The full list of nominees after the jump, along with some trifling commentaries on some super superfluous categories.

I guess they didn't see any of the foreign toons in the Oscar hunt?

Best Foreign Language Film
"Amour"
"The Intouchables"
"A Royal Affair"
"Rust and Bone"
Why only four? Are these the only foreign films they saw all year?

Best Actor in an Action Movie
Christian Bale, "The Dark Knight Rises"

Downey Jr.? Really? Been there, done that. And End of Watch is an action movie? Kinda like the confusing misrepresentation of Drive last year.

Best Actress in an Action Movie
Emily Blunt, "Looper"
Gina Carano, "Haywire"
Judi Dench, "Skyfall"
Anne Hathaway, "The Dark Knight Rises"
Jennifer Lawrence, "The Hunger Games"
Watch Jennifer Lawrence win even though Dench is nominated for Supporting Actress for her fine turn in Skyfall.

"21 Jump Street"

Best Actor in a Comedy

Best Actress in a Comedy
Mila Kunis, "Ted"
Jennifer Lawrence, "Silver Linings Playbook"
Shirley MacLaine, "Bernie"
Leslie Mann, "This is 40"
Rebel Wilson, "Pitch Perfect"
These last two categories are particularly redundant. If Cooper and Lawrence are both nominated for Best Actor and Actress respectively, wouldn't that make them the defacto winners here? Waste of space, BFCA.

Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie
"The Cabin in the Woods"
"Looper"
"Prometheus"
Weak sauce.
