Being such a strong year as it was for original movie music, I have to admit I found myself struggling to find at least three worthy contenders that made effective use of preexisting music to tell their stories. But I ended up with some anyway, so here are my nominees for Best Adapted Score:
THE LOBSTER (Amy Ashworth)
This straight-faced selection of Stravinsky, Strauss and Beethoven (among others) seems a perfect foil for Lanthimos' bleak comedy.
LOVE
& FRIENDSHIP (Mark Suozzo)
A suite of Baroque interludes, all beautifully performed by the Irish Film Orchestra, act as comic punctuation between witticisms.
TROLLS
(Justin Timberlake)
It's a jukebox dance party for all! If you're in the mood for pop covers and musical mania, this album has an earworm (or two) for you. Shake your hair and feel united!
