Argo
Life of Pi
Lincoln
Skyfall
Zero Dark Thirty
The decade long streak of an ACE winner going on to win Best Film Editing at the Oscars was broken last year when The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo won (no comment) over The Descendants and The Artist. Not sure what the case will be this year. Argo and Zero Dark Thirty have showier editing, but Lincoln and Life of Pi appear to be more popular with the Academy. I'd still look to the winner of this prize to be the Oscar favourite.
Best Editing - Comedy
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Les Miserables
Moonrise Kingdom
Silver Linings Playbook
Ted
Gak(!) to Best Exotic. That film felt even longer than it already was. I'm guessing the lone Oscar nominee of this bunch, SLP, takes it. It could face some heat from Les Mis. Wouldn't it be lovely to see the beautifully cut Moonrise Kingdom pull out a win here, though!
Best Editing - Animated
Brave
Frankenweenie
Rise of the Guardians
Wreck-It Ralph
Wreck-It Ralph tops this group in my opinion, but it's truly anyone's game. Guild categories like these may eventually become an important barometer to decide who wins Oscar's Best Animated Feature.
Best Editing - Documentary
Samsara
Searching for Sugar Man
West of Memphis
Sugar Man continues to rack up industry support. I liked it and all, but it's slowly starting to take over my "Most Overrated Film of the Year" spot.
